For the third time in three years the PGA Tour is tweaking the FedEx Cup playoffs.
The tour's policy board on Tuesday approved changes to the structure of the FedEx Cup playoffs that guarantee the winner will be crowned at the Tour Championship.
In the first two years of the Cup, Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh had essentially clinched the cup before the final event.
The 2009 Tour Championship will be held from Sept. 24-27, creating a week break between the final event of the playoffs and the BMW Championship.
Other changes included shifting the points reset from the start of the playoffs to before the Tour Championship and making playoff events worth four times as many points as regular events.
